Abstract of Presentation
This talk analyzes the political process through which Chile, Colombia, and Argentina chose to implement large-scale assessments to measure learning outcomes, the uses of these tests, and the implications of their adoption. The lecture examines government and teacher union strategies to support and oppose result-based accountability and their political effects on public education.

About the Presenter
Claudia Díaz Ríos holds a PhD in political science from McMaster University. She is currently a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ontario Institute for Studies on Education, University of Toronto. Dr. Díaz Ríos studies the globalization of education policy and its effects on social inequality.
