During the Summer of 2017, Latin American Studies was proud to work together with Collective 65 to host their “Wisdom into Art” workshop at the University of Toronto.

Collective 65 is a not-for-profit organization founded by two experienced photographers that focuses on helping Spanish-speaking seniors improve their technology skills. “Wisdom into Art” runs photography classes that teach technical skills, encourage socialization, promote intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, and empower Latin American seniors to express themselves. The program includes a final art exhibit where participants are able to showcase their work. The following pictures were taken at the closing ceremony of the workshop:

On Thursday, July 18th, 2013 Latin American Studies received the visit of a group of girls of Latin American descent participating in a summer camp organized by MUJER. MUJER is a non-profit organization that promotes the integral development of Latin American women and youth in Canada.

The almost three-week camp included creative art expression workshops, engaging and interacting with young women using arts (dance, painting, music and poetry), which covered topics including self-esteem, bullying, body image and healthy relationships. During their visit to LAS, our coordinator spoke to them about the joys and challenges of choosing a career path and how to continue with the appropriate higher education. Here are some pictures of their visit. Thank you to MUJER for the opportunity to talk to these young students!
